Fairhope began as a Utopian community on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. All the public waterfront and live oaks saved by the foresight of the original founders give life to the town and have been a draw for artists for over a century. Much of the original architecture remains intact and the downtown is beloved, rife with good food and culture.

At 108 Gaston, we discovered a true Bay Cottage, built in the late 1800’s, two blocks from the bay, and with just enough - a screened porch, old wood floors and a simple layout. We have added a pool and hot tub, and use it both as a family place, and a retreat space for writers and artists, extended family and friends. There is a quiet desk at which to write, 2 bedrooms, an outdoor workspace for painting and ceramics, tropical plantings, an outdoor shower, and the work of various artists throughout the house.
